Ellen White wrote that:

“Every position of truth taken by our people will bear the criticism of the greatest minds; the highest of the world’s great men will be brought in contact with truth, and therefore every position we take should be critically examined and tested by the Scriptures.” Evangelism, p. 69

When the Sabbath issue is brought to the forefront in America, the words of Paul in Romans 6:14 ("For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law but under grace") will be used against Sabbath-keepers in an attempt to prove that the law containing the 4th commandment has been abolished. Those Adventists who have not learned how to correctly defend the law in light of what Paul wrote in Romans 6:14 will lose the argument. Many Adventists do not understand what Paul meant with these words. He said that we are not under law, but Adventists, in our effort to defend the Ten Commandment law, end up trying to put Christians back under the law. We must come to terms with these words of Paul; and when we do, many in other Protestant denominations will love God's law, including the Sabbath commandment. We will be able to establish and defend the Ten Commandment law without sounding like legalists.
